Vulnerability-Exposure

Vulnerability

and Exposure

In Sri Lanka, children and pregnant mothers have a higher susceptibility to dengue. Dengue infection during pregnancy is a risk for both the mother and the newborn which leads to other problems such as premature birth, fetal death and vertical transmission (Kariyawasam and Senanayake, 2010). In addition, children are most vulnerable to dengue infection specifically the age group from 6-18 years (Nadeeka et al.,2014). Other socio-economic and socio-cultural factors along with demographics, migration and urbanization need to be taken into account to carry out vulnerability analysis (Zubair et al.,2006).
